چکیده

– The multipole expansion technique is applied to one of the largest magnetic molecules, Fe30. The molecule’s dipole, toroid and quadrupole magnetic moments are equal to zero (in the absence of magnetic field) so the multipole expansion starts from the octopole moment. Probably the Fe30 molecule is the most symmetrical magnetic body synthesized so far. The magnetization process is considered theoretically in different geometries. Some components of the octopole moment experience a jump while the magnetization rises linearly up to its saturation value. An elementary octopole moment consisting of four magnetic dipoles is proposed as a hint for designing of an experiment for measurement of octopole magnetic moment components. Introduction. – Multipole expansion of the electrical field generated by a number of electrical charges has been widely used in theoretical physics. However, multipole expansion of magnetic fields generated by a system of permanent currents is less known. The starting point of such an expansion is a well known formula for the vector potential of the magnetic field:

Competing spin phases in geometrically frustrated magnetic molecules.

We identify a class of zero-dimensional classical and quantum Heisenberg spin systems exhibiting anomalous behavior in an external magnetic field B similar to that found for the geometrically frustrated kagome lattice of classical spins. Our calculations for the isotropic Heisenberg model show the emergence of a pronounced minimum in the differential susceptibility dM/dB at B(sat)/3 as the temp...

Modified Spin - Wave Theory for Nanomagnets : Application to the Keplerate Molecule

We adapt Takahashi’s modified spin-wave theory to the context of nano-magnets, and apply it to the molecular compound based on the giant magnetic molecule Mo72Fe30. This involves solving numerically the mean-field equations and then forcing the sublattice magnetizations to zero by means of local chemical potentials for the magnons. We have thus constructed a quantum state with no local magnetiz...

Electronic structure and soft-X-ray-induced photoreduction studies of iron-based magnetic polyoxometalates of type {(M)M5}12Fe(III)30 (M = Mo(VI), W(VI)).

Giant Keplerate-type molecules with a {Mo72Fe30} core show a number of very interesting properties, making them particularly promising for various applications. So far, only limited data on the electronic structure of these molecules from X-ray spectra and electronic structure calculations have been available. Here we present a combined electronic and magnetic structure study of three Keplerate...

Quantum rotational band model for the Heisenberg molec - ular magnet { Mo 72 Fe 30 }

– We derive the low temperature properties of the molecular magnet {Mo72Fe30}, where 30 Fe paramagnetic ions occupy the sites of an icosidodecahedron and interact via isotropic nearest-neighbour antiferromagnetic Heisenberg exchange. The key idea of our model (J.S. & M.L.) is that the low-lying excitations form a sequence of “rotational bands”, i.e., for each such band the excitation energies d...

A giant metallo-supramolecular cage encapsulating a single-molecule magnet.

A giant metallo-supramolecular cage encapsulating a single-molecule magnet, [Ag42{Ho(W5O18)2}(t-BuC≡C)28Cl4]OH, is prepared and structurally characterized. It shows an interesting "peanut-like" structure and remains intact in solution as demonstrated by NMR studies.
